The Super Thinkers Booster Masterclass for GCSE English Language Paper 1 is a two-day intensive course for Year 11 students and GCSE English Language resit students. It is designed for students who struggle to get started, develop description, control structure, broaden vocabulary or reach the higher mark bands.

Who the masterclass is for
The programme can be adapted for students working towards Grades 3–5 and for those aiming for Grades 6–9. Teaching is scaffolded for students with dyslexia, literacy difficulties or low writing confidence while offering deliberate challenge for students targeting the higher bands.
Day 1: Build the writer
- Understand the creative-writing task and what the mark scheme rewards.
- Generate useful ideas quickly from a picture or title.
- Use the PLACE method to create a focused five-minute plan.
- Develop imagery, precise vocabulary and sensory detail.
- Control sentence length, paragraphing, pace and shifts in focus.
Day 2: Become the examiner’s choice
- Build character, atmosphere and tension without over-explaining.
- Shape a clear turning point and a deliberate ending.
- Edit sentence boundaries, punctuation, spelling and repeated wording.
- Complete a timed creative-writing response.
- Leave with a strength, a priority improvement and a practical next step.
A practical, reusable approach
Across four focused teaching blocks, students receive explicit teaching, tutor modelling, guided practice and independent writing time. The goal is not to memorise a story or collect techniques, but to build a process they can adapt to an unseen image or title in the exam.
